Hirem was a meek, passive little fly who hung out with his friends Flory and the loudmouth but tolerable Horsey at the Sugar Bowl (a diner literally made from a sugar bowl). Unbeknownst to his friends, when danger loomed Hirem snuck off to a nearby matchbox where he transformed into the super-powered hero called Fearless Fly. Fearless Fly’s powers derived from special glasses that generated millions of megatons of energy to the sensitive muscles in his head. About the only way to defeat Fearless Fly was to remove his glasses, in which case he reverted to his vulnerable alter ego, Hirem.
The Tibetan wizard Dr. Goo Fee and his assistant Gung Ho were Fearless Fly’s only real adversaries. Although Fearless Fly was located half-way around the globe—and was altogether unconcerned with the activities of the Tibetan wizard—Dr. Goo Fee nevertheless felt compelled to destroy his nemesis. Of course, this meant he and his assistant had to first cross the ocean in a pedal-powered biplane before even attempting to carry out a scheme.
Fearless Fly was one of several, 7-minute, rotating segments that made up the half-hour program, The Milton the Monster Show. The other segments included Milton the Monster, Flukey Luke, Muggy-Doo, Penny Penguin, and Stuffy Durma.
